Anyone who knows me knows I'm a little obsessed with DIY projects. I've mentioned before that I believe there is a tutorial on blog-land for almost everything and I love trying my hand at new projects I find.
Mike and I have a rule that if I want to replace a piece of furniture, I have to be able to sell the old piece and the profits determine my budget for the next item. I can't go over budget - but, as he always reminds me - I can go under.
Recently the Washington Post ran an opinion piece on the topic of the "new domesticity" - how there has been a return in recent years to canning, knitting and all that other DIY stuff. The author explores why today it's so trendy with women to DIY: Is it how we were created? Or do we just love it because we're no longer "forced" to be homemakers by society, but it's now a choice, so we find freedom in it? Or is it our attempt to "repair on an individual level what isn’t being fixed at a governmental or societal one?"
I'm curious - what do you think? I know not many people who read this blog would classify themselves as "DIYer's" but I'm willing to bet most of you can make a mean homemade cookie - which is in fact - DIY. :)
